EdAd 521 Commitment Statement

This class has truly been eye opening. Like most people in the class have expressed, I thought I was extremely tech savvy prior to coming to this class. However, I now see that being tech savvy and applying it to my work in a meaningful way are two completely separate things. When it comes to using technology in the classroom, I am not a digital native, but rather a digital newbie. I am willing to learn and need to remind myself to push outside of my comfort zone and stretch myself as a digital leader. As a teacher and administrative intern, this is a great time for me to explore the intersection of technology in both of those different roles. As an administrator, I want to fully encourage teachers to use technology to enhance student learning and engagement. To do that in an authentic way, I need to also fully embrace technology in a leadership role and also during my time as a classroom teacher.

This year I am committing to using a blog for my class assignments, notes and reminders. I also am planning on using a specific twitter hashtag to connect with students during class as well. This year, I am changing how I collect assignments and I believe that embracing technology will help me to commit and be consistent. As Eric said in the google hangout today, the main focus must be pedagogy and technology helps with that.

I chose to focus my final blog on high expectations because I believe that is the center of all our work. As a teacher, we must hold our students to high standards and help them to grow and reach or exceed those expectations. As leaders, we must hold our staff to high standards and provide high levels of trust and support along the way. Lastly, as educators in any job, we must have high expectations for ourselves and continually push ourselves. Through this process, we will push other teachers, grow students and create meaningful change.
